How does Academy membership link into the BHS exam pathway?
Academy members can decide whether they wish to concentrate exclusively on their riding or combine the horse care and stable management elements also. By following the BHS Equine Excellence Pathway individuals can work at their own pace and follow a path to help them reach their goals.
The British Horse Society Career pathways offer you the opportunity to progress your career within the equine industry and learn practical, real-world skills within a structured platform. One way of doing this is through the BHS Challenge Awards. Riders learn how to care for horses, develop hands-on, practical skills and get stuck in with the dayto-day tasks.
These awards are made up of two sections – About the Horse and About the Rider. Starting with Bronze, working through Silver, Gold and finishing with Platinum there are many topics covered at each level, such as:
• Knowing your Horse
• Caring for your horse
• Handling your horse
• Lungeing your horse
• Riding fit
• Riding flat
• Riding jump
• Riding out safely
Individuals who have completed their ‘About the Rider Silver’ and ‘About the Horse Silver’ can gain direct entry into the BHS stage 2 care, stage 2 lunge and stage 2 ride.
